Va**************:
I am a skydiver....to me there is only one extreme sport without a doubt.....where there is no plan B,no protection,no supportive gear, only one way ticket....solo free climbing !!! My respect Alex.....all my best, stay safe....Ralph from Detroit. 5/17/2020

Ro****************:

“You’re hiking barefoot? That’s so hardcore!”

smh

sw***:
My hands are sweating and I'm not even watching him climb.

No******:

Alex: “When you climb any mistake could cause death, it requires a different mindset...”

Audience: laughs

J*:

He was more comfortable climbing el cap than speaking to that audience

Ro************:
I was literally sweating when I watched this guy climbing.

Sa*:

"You're hiking barefoot? That's so hardcore!"

Ks*********:

"I didn't want to be a lucky climber, I wanted to be a great climber."

Sa********:
“I had to trust my life to the friction between my climbing shoes and the smooth granite.”

Do**************:
Technically he isn't climbing if his balls are dragging the ground the whole time

E7***:
My palms never sweated so much watching a Ted talk

Gl***********:
One of the greatest athletes ever. It takes a true man to go ahead knowing that he might lose his life

ye*******:
A national treasure climbing a national treasure.

al****:

The dislikes are from people who sell ropes

Sa********:
He was probably more nervous delivering this speech than summiting el cap

Fl*************:
Watched the movie with my climbing buddy in the cinema. We had to laugh since we were both constantly wiped the sweat off our palms :-)
My highest climb was 230m (11 pitches). And it was waay below the difficulty of El Cap.
I still remember that you sometimes just freak out a bit when you look down and see the void and just your small rope you attached yourself to the wall with.
Can't imagine what it requires to feel confident enough to do it without protection. It's both impressive and crazy at the same time.

Mr**********:
Imagine walking up the mountain like a normal person, looking over the edge and seeing this guy climbing up the side without a rope

Mr***********:
The thing that makes me cringe, is when Alex gets to the top and stands up and walks along the edge like it was nothing. And I’m thinking, man don’t trip and fall. Man that would be ironic. Go through all that trouble and then fall off the top. Alain Robert does the same thing. Most of them do actually.

Pe***************:
this is the type of achievement that truly deserves respect. Bravo my man

99*******:

To any peops saying that even watching/listening to this felt scary: Go and watch Alex Honnold do the whole thing in the film "Free Solo".
Worse than any horror scenario Stephen King could throw at you.

Le*********:
How did he climb El Capitan with balls that big

Co**************:
This talk probably scared him more
But he looks comfortable enough here

Sq*********:
This 10 minute talk conveys the fear, doubt and motivation of Honnold better then the entire 'free solo' documentary.

go*****:
One time I walked across the city of Los Angeles after midnight without a weapon.

Je*******:
Most of the commenters are missing the point. Alex did something not only considered too risky, but impossible by almost everyone. He did this though incredible preparation, both physical and mental. The story is that impossible dreams are not impossible, if you are truly dedicated to a good plan and follow it no matter what. This is also a story about controlling fear. As a crappy 5.11± climber, i know that fear is truly "the little death before total obliteration.". Although Alex's public speaking skills are dwarfed by his climbing skills, it is an important message.

Da************:

This video has confirmed my suspicion that public speaking is, in fact, the scariest thing in the world.

kh***********:
Free solo : The best horror movie of all time

Al**************:

Pressing the like button with sweaty hands is my achievement today
