On the microwave idea, make the front display one of those new transparent displays from LG or Samsung. That way, it would be a button press to determine if you're viewing the food THROUGH the front window or viewing the food as a display from the camera looking down on the food. Additionally, a side or back infrared camera would be a nice option too.
