so*****:

i am an Indian, and in India if you are a dark skinned women, you are looked down upon and considered ugly. I had always hated my complexion because i was told to by everyone. It was only in the western media that i saw women of my skin colour being called beautiful. Watching and listening to dark skinned girls being confident in their brown skin and embracing their melanin has made me love mine too.

Edit: As an Indian, I am ashamed of the recent controversial song, "Beyonce Sharma Jayegi" (Translation: Beyonce will be ashamed *after seeing a fair skinned girl*) because it just shows how racist and colourist INDIAn Media is. but i am so very proud of the indians speaking against it. I had to come back here, because the moment i heard about the title of that colorist song, i was reminded of this song.

Th********:
If being brown skinned will make me even remotely as gorgeous as Beyonce, then fuck, I'm glad I'm brown.

All my life growing up I envied the white girls in my town. Their fair skin, silky hair, lack of visible body hair. I really did feel like white people were superior, and it's just unfortunate that I wasn't blessed with those genes.

But.
Lmao.
Beyonce slowly changed my mind growing up. For over two decades now, she has shown me that she is a QUEEN. She's THE queen of music and no one steps up to her. How fitting for it to rightfully be a black woman. No matter who was against her, the industry, other celebrities, fans, or conservative pundits, she gracefully stood her ground and elegantly wooped their asses with her talent and songs. Shieeeeet. She still continues to do so.

Tr*****:

As an indian Christian with dark skin when I was a child, I would really feel sad when people made fun of me for being dark. I wouldn't be convinced even when my mama would tell me that there's nothing wrong with being dark.(mainly because at that time I would go out to play and tan wayyy more than my lighter brown skinned mom). But then one day there was this gorgeous African lady who got married into our community. And every Sunday that she would take Sunday school she'd always remind us little kids that God loved us no matter our colour. And for some reason I would always believe her because I saw the similarity between us and I used to feel so comforted. This song, even though I feel is very much for the black people.....I feel connected to it because of the lady that held my heart when I was just a child.
