Give him a work truck, hard hat, health insurance and pension and a city worker salary and he will fill a hole or two once a while instead of digging them.

Those are some serious looking termites! Even in the deep south, where termites cause hundreds of million dollars (if not more) to buildings and landscaping every year, North American termites make these guys look like the Hulk! But ours fly and can get into the damnedest places-just a tiny crack and others will follow! And they don’t let our warmer winters slow them much. These South American termites could probably devour a big, very old barn in an afternoon!
So if you are in the south in an older restaurant or an old B&B, or any historical homes open for tours, an extra dollar or so would be very much appreciated. They have to have pest control out every week or so to make sure none have made a nest and started destroying the wood under the floor boards, in the structural walls and even roof beams. If it’s made of wood, they will eat it! Especially in older houses as nobody had come up with ‘treated’ wood yet.
It makes sense now that there are so many very old buildings in New England as these winters would kill any larvae or eggs. So unless they had been able to find a place far into the house near a fireplace or kitchen, they could never get past the first generation.
