ta*********:

Only Martin Scorcese can present gangsters in such an artistic way.

Ar******:
“The Irishman” the movie where everyone who is 50+ years old is still called kid

Mc******************:
Scorsese really goes against type in this movie and with a whole new cast including De Niro, Pesci, Pacino and Keitel as Mob bosses in a bloody, violent, profanity-laced 3-hour marathon. I didn’t see that coming.

Da************:

“Heres a film filled with legendary actors” GIVE IT TO ME YOU MONSTER

20 years from now, everyone's gonna look back on that Oscars & wonder, how TF did Parasite possibly win over this movie? People who complain about its length don't understand...this is one of the big reasons why Scorsese chose Netflix to release it. Because it doesn't matter if a Netflix movie runs for 3 1/2 hours. If you've gotta go to the can etc. just PAUSE IT for crying out loud. It's not like a 3 1/2-hour theatrical release that needs an intermission, like The Godfather Part ll. The Irishman will go down as one of the greatest movies ever to not win Best Picture, right up there with The Wizard Of Oz & Citizen Kane. I actually hated to see it end...& right away looked forward to seeing it again. I'm a third-generation NYer. I recently had to go down to Chinatown & stopped by Mulberry St. on my way back to the train. Since seeing The Irishman, I'll never be able to look the same way at Lombardi's, I can tell you that.

YO*:
MY FRIEND:"THE FREKKIN MOVIE IS 3 AND HALF HOUR LONG!!!"

I just finished this for 2nd time today and oh boy what a movie this is. It lefts you with a feeling of, like you just witnessed a whole era, a whole life, like reading a great book. It's astonishing how Martin Scorsese still delivering at this late of his career. Robert De Niro tho, every actor delivered equally well. The haunting theme just gives me chills. What an experience this movie is.

Br************:

Hands down the best movie of the year I mean the joker was great but The Irishman is in a different level Amazing

“I paint houses”

Ak************:
The movie is a rich smorgasbord of existential themes: the futility of excess, the cold loneliness of death, and the impossible task of parenting.
Russ Bufallino, Tony Salerno, Tony Provezano, Sally Bugs, Frank Sheeran - mob bosses and underlings - who ordered and carried out hits on others were just as helpless when death came knocking; that their wealth - the protection of it, and which they killed for - was especially meaningless when it ought to have mattered the most shows the futility of anything more than the essential. It's good to have these extras, but their importance can't be anymore superficial.

Frank's relationship with his daughters, especially Peggy, shows just how dicey parenting can be, that the best possible choices may not necessarily give the best result, and that a sheltered upbringing is more of a handicap than a positive in helping children truly understand the world. Peggy for instance, idolised Jimmy Hoffa because she only saw the persona and not the entire man, naively using him as a standard to measure her father - the one she thought she saw clearly and knew too well. Jimmy Hoffa may not have painted houses, but he sure wasn't averse to the idea when it suited him and when it meant others had to do his dirty job. How skewed Peggy's vision was!

The Irishman offers a quick learning in the way of the world - loyalty is reserved only for that person who has the most direct influence on your own existence, and Frank Sheeran was no dolt. Of all the characters, he was the single person who had to make the most tough decisions in this regard.

NB: If ever the link between the mob and JFK's assassination was dismissed as a load of hot air, this movie raises that age-old question and kinda teases us with the possibility of such a connection.
