11:12 Disney, look!! The next classic!
Yes, Muslim women have obligations towards their husbands and etc, but honestly, all those 'obligations towards husbands' that you were saying are just culture in a certain countries. Yes, women have to submit to their husbands but men also have to respect and protect their wives. Forced marriage is also haram in Islam , based on this quranic verse,
“O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion.”
Quran 4:19
You've just explained the whole point of many religious scriptures.
Many of them do not sound like gods words.
Well..because they aren't. They are the words of some, at the time, powerful and
clever people (men) who wrote them down an fooled everyone else to believe them coming from god and
use these dogmatic frases to their advantage.
[ Qur'an 30:19 ]
I wonder where did she get them?

When I tell you I got chills down my spine.

No one's gonna talk about how most of the women's in the audience stood up to clap

My mom grew up in Lebanon around early 80’s to late 90’s. Before the religious movement hit the Middle East the woman at least where my mom grew up and certain areas in the Middle East never dressed the way Muslim woman are told to dress now. This is where people mix culture and religion. The girl speaking is at least in my opinion speaking facts. I’ve seen so much difference of opinion on this topic and it’s a common theme that the ones saying it’s mandatory is because of what they have been taught culturally that’s enhanced throughout the years guilting woman into feeling as though they have to or they will be punished. To my understanding in the quaran it is advised you dress modest if you wish, however that no one can force you to do anything. While hijab is a symbol of modestly you can still dress modest without wearing one. Everything is a choice and what you decide to do in your life right or wrong is between you and Allah. It also makes me mad when men judge Muslim woman for not wearing one or dressing in a way they deem is not right. What no one talks about is how it’s also their job to watch/Avert their gaze from a woman’s body rather than blaming the woman for failing to dress properly. While there’s a difference of opinion wether or not you wear one, it’s a choice and I agree with what the speaker is saying in the video. And to all the woman that wear one I applaud your bravery as in today’s time it’s not easy. If anyone has a difference of opinion or wants to comment something keep it clean, this comment wasn’t to start controversy just to share my views on this topic.

Had no idea, I know very little about the Quran. That the word hijab means "barrier" is crazy. Love this talk.

Wow. I’m impressed! The way she presents the subject, being unbiased , organized, structured and mindful!
Islam is perfect but i am not. If i make a mistake blame it to me, not on my religion."
Learn lslam from "Holy Quran."
Not from Media

It's both interesting and disheartening to learn how religion has become a pawn to serve insecure and feebleminded people.
in**********:
The central teaching of Islam is the definition of the word "Mono"theism. To set the example of unity to others by not splitting Gods divinity. Man creates religion and sects by splitting this divinity and idolising parts of God's creation.

Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him?

I like how you ignored the Hadith, I like how you didn’t name one clerk that does what you said, I have not seen one ruling of what you’ve said. where are those clerks and where are these transalations where ?

When would we start teaching men to control themselves rather than making solutions for women?
Ta***********:
Its a very beautiful told explanation.... It was something that was unclear for me as a non Muslim...
us******:
men, please listen: lower your gaze and control yourself.
Yo***********:
One of the verses the sister refer to is verse 31, chapter 24. This is a translation to english:
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their ˹hidden˺ adornments except to their husbands, their fathers, their fathers-in-law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, their fellow women, those ˹bondwomen˺ in their possession, male attendants with no desire, or children who are still unaware of women’s nakedness. Let them not stomp their feet, drawing attention to their hidden adornments. Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may be successful.
And, I would like to mention the verse before, so we can have a kind of context:
˹O Prophet!˺ Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.
And now some logic: men and women are both asked 'to lower their gaze and guard their chastity''. Moreover, women have additional rules. But as the sister is arguing, women can wear like men, so why there's differences between the rules given to each one?
Secondly, the verse says: [tell the believing women] 'not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests'. The sister quoted the part 'Let them draw their veils over their chests', but what about their adornments?
Actually, every word used by Allah is used for a determined purpose. You can't just ignore the fact that the verse that talks to women is longer and more detailed than the one that talks to men.
This made me smile so much and I am so grateful for this presentation.
We live in a fear based society.
Fear = control
Most organised religions have lost the spiritual message and instead instil fear of God in people in order to control them (especially women in Islam).
Having been brought up a Muslim my whole life I always wanted to be authentic to myself but was held back due to religion and culture.
As I become more spiritually aware and separate that from religion/ culture I’m finally rejoicing from the freedom and it feels so good!
There’s no need to fear God/Allah. God is all loving and does not judge anyone, after all we are his creation. It’s just so sad that we judge one another instead.
Be authentic to your passion(s) and your purpose on earth and don’t let fear of anything stop you!
We are on this earth to be authentic to our soul’s purpose, to grow and experience.
I wish more people would wake up and became more aware; we would have such a peaceful and happy world!!
She was very beautiful that Al-Fadl Ibn Abaas couldn't stop staring at her.
Seeing this, the Prophet reached out his hand and turned his cousin's face away.
Before he told her to cover up, or to change her clothes, or tell her that she was being tempting. Instead he turned his cousin's gaze away.
Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 , book 74, no. 247

Edit : the whole point of my comment is that in Islam, a guy averting his gaze is just as important as a lady covering up.
Averting the gaze away from the tempting things have been mentioned many times in Qur'an. Whether it was for men , or women.
So, when people blame harassment on women (which happens in all countries, but now I want to focus on the Muslim ones) it is not because of religion, but rather because of society.
I believe that we have to teach our boys how to lower their eyes as much as we teach our girls to cover up.
