When my parents got separated, I listened all the time to this song and related so much to it.
Many of my friends said I handled the separation so well, but honestly I would cry my eyes out every night and blame myself for all of it.

When I was nine years old, I used to be bullied a lot, I got used and taken advantage of, my mother said some things to me that mentally hurt me after 5 years still and I used to self harm and considered suicide so many times. When I was eleven years old, I left my country with my family. We emigrated to Ecuador, when arriving everything was very hard. We stop living in a big house to be in a very small and cold room. Then we moved to a bigger and nicer house. But we still had economic problems, at the end of 2017 I got to know the music of Shanw. And I just loved it, I listened to it when my parents went to work and I had to take care of my brother. In April 2018, we emigrated again due to xenophobia. We came to Peru, here it was much harder than Ecuador, I had to start over. I was always sad and tearful, and sometimes even music did not calm me down. I cried at night because I did not want my mother to see me. After many months, we achieved a bit of stability. A few days ago Shawn finally gave dates for Latin America. And my parents told me they would take me for a gift of 15 years. I was very happy ... But this morning they said that we would move again. I had to hold my tears. I know it sounds selfish, but in these trips the one that came out harmed was me. And when I finally manage to like it a little here, they say we'll leave. Maybe it's a passing teenage thought, as many adults say. But I would like you to think about me once and if we move, we will have a bad time. If you got here and you did not understand anything. It does not matter I just wanted to vent a little: c

I became a member of the Mendes Army a year ago in March of 2018 and when my so called "friends" found out, they flipped. They made it seem like a black girl couldn't listen to Shawn Mendes a very talented white man. And I know that I'm throwing those colored words around but that the words that came out of my friend's mouth. And one day it got so bad that I went home and fell asleep and I woke up and remembered what my friends had said. And I got a knife and held to my throat and thought, "this is how I'm gonna die" then my bsf said that this wasn't the way to die. And like an hour later, I was in YouTube listening to this music video and Shawn Mendes came on. And it was Mercy and Mercy had me in tears when I listened to it because I can relate to it. Then next was this song, and I cried again. And I was basically like fuck the people that didn't think that I could listen to his music. Because he saved my life and without him, I wouldn't be here. That would have been one less person from the Mendes Army and one less person that could support Shawn through everything. And now I listen to his songs everyday and think, his voice is so emotionally powerful that he can put someone in tears or save someone's life. His lyrics actually have meaning to them. Shawn Mendes, thank you for all you do. I love you so freaking much. You are a real true hero and you deserve all the love in the world. There is absolutely no artist like you. Keep doing what you doing. And know that I will always be a part of the Mendes Army.

Every time I am scared,angry or worried I sing this song to myself. I sung this song to myself the first time went skateboarding because I was worried I would not be good enough. I turned out to be really good an I thank Shawn for it.

It's been almost 1 and a half year since my parents divorced which made my life change. I used to he a very haply kid . after that incident my life turned upside down. When tyb released I fell in love with him. I searched things about him and his music and became a really big fan.
This year I was literally suffering from anxiety, social anxiety, depression and other mental disorders. I became suicidal, I self harmed but what kept me alive and strong was music. I don't only listen to Shawn but Shawn was the first artist I got into his music.
This song reminds me of everything that's going on in my life and every time I'm in tears.

This is so inspiring and I miss this kind of music but still I'm thankful that music exists because it's my recovery and without it everything would be different.

when I was 12, my twin sister was diagnosed with cancer. a year later, she passed. everyone said I was strong, but what they didn't know was, every night I cried into my pillow. I felt so alone, my best friend was gone. my sister was funny, beautiful, kind, and always thought of others. why did you have to leave, Kate? it's been 2 years, of course I still miss my other half, but I am getting better! this song makes me cry every time, because Kate loved Shawn. but, sometimes it's good to cry. and I won't let it get in my way :)
