“Everybody has their own strength and their own queendom. Mine could never compare to hers, and hers could never compare to mine.”

Fa***:

This has to be the one of the best Ted talks I've ever watched.

Mo**********:

The fact that she played Jill Scott!

ia**********:

I just want this woman to follow me around and give me slightly insulting but well intended advice! She seems good at it.

Ti*************:

Why is the crowd ignoring the fact that she's hilarious? Whilst speaking truth.

en****************:

I've been on a journey of self-discovery the past year (age 31) after my grandma (my rock) passed away and though it's difficult sometimes missing her I've learned SO much about myself. She had always told me things I never understood, but the past year I've been learning and understanding myself more than I ever had before. I feel I have a ways to go but don't most of us? We're all on our own journey and everything this wise woman has said is so true. :-)

Ad********:

Glad she could take a day off teaching at Hogwarts to come do this.

No******:

"People who are afraid to be themselves, will work for those who aren't afraid"

yo********:

That was literally awesome! Though actually 'doing it' can be really tricky . . . especially when one is 'in love with' the sickness that keeps you down . . . (that is just a thought too ??!!)
So beautifully presented, and thank you to your Mam for saying what she did! I wish someone had said that to me ;)
<3

Ku***********:
Is this "the ancient one" from Dr. Strange? ha, great talk!

Ia*********:
"people who are frightened to be themselves, will work for those who arent afraid."
that really struck a note with me...

Le*****:
Did you know that Britney Spears is an anagram for Presbyterian?" No! That had me in stitches. I love her sense of humor :)

Ro*********:

" People that say to you they have 15 years experience when they mean one year, 15 times "

Ka********:
"I'm not the center of attention... you're the center of mine" daymnnn... mindblown.

Sk*************:

One line stuck out to me: "the people who are afraid to be themselves end up working for those who aren't." It's true, even out of the context of work. I'm only fifteen, so I have a long way to go, but at this point in my life I've been afraid to be myself for literally as long as I can remember. I was afraid to be myself, and so subconsciously I followed the people who weren't. And guess what? By the end of primary school I had a grand total of zero friends whom I could actually be myself around. I began primary school the same way I finished it: lonely. I had always dreamed of some distant day as a teenager when I could finally have friends and be myself and do what I wanted... but now I'm fifteen and I've barely improved. Anyway, blah blah blah Imm changing for the better goodbye

Cl**********:
This is one of the most important, well articulated messages for our well-being that I’ve ever heard.

I met my true self, warts `n all, when I met Christ & the more I`ve got to know Him the more I like my own company best but I`m really hangin` with my Creator who`s, not just the best, but the All.

As**************:
"I have never been the center of attention. You're the center of mine" aaaah this talk is so good! So many lines that spoke to me, thank you so much for this beautiful talk

Sl*************:

I've been out of touch with myself for so long, I don't even HAVE any "goals." Being a Gen-X'r has been a bumpy road, I'll say.

rb**:

This talk brought me tears. I’ll need the rest of my life to figure out if it worked for me or not, and I’m ready to start!

“Someday, somewhere - anywhere, unfailingly, you'll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.” ― Pablo Neruda

Ka********:

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing it’s best, day and night, to make you like everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight ,and never stop fighting.” - E.E. Cummings

Ka******:
Should it not be called: "The Art of NOT being yourself", since I have never met a living organism that was not itself at any moment of its existence??

Jo*********:

I freakin needed this one of the best ted talks I’ve seen hands down

ma***********:
"People who are afraid to be themselves, will work for those who aren't afraid"

So****:

“Most of us would rather sleepwalk until something happens to wake us up”
Love that quote

An**********:
Rumour has it that she's actually a Jedi and was thought this by Yoda.

Er**********:

She looks like a time traveler that's been on a few tours and has seen things.

Lo**********:
I know this was released years ago and no one's going to see this, but i'm 13 and I feel so fortunate to have found this. I'm struggling to understand myself and my feelings and who I am, and this is really really helpful. It reminds me of something my uncle said, something along the lines of "the things you need most come from yourself and only yourself". I rejected it at the time, but now I know it's true. I want to be myself and not an impersonation of what I think people will like, and I know it won't be easy, but it's one of the things I think the universe wants everyone to do no matter where they are. If anyone's reading this, I hope they can recognize themselves for who they truly are and be as individualistic as they can. goodbye

edit: I can't believe how many responses I got. I thought no one would read this and it would just be something i'd look back on, but thank you all very much for your kind words. I'm more motivated now than ever! thank you so much.

Ai************:

Hmm. I mostly liked this but I'm not happy with the ending: 'if you tap into being yourself you might be the youngest gold medalist ever' etc. etc. etc. Why not 'if you tap into yourself you might be truly happy.' Why does she present the goal as some kind of big recognizable public achievement? To be fair, she does initially define success people as those who become the person they want to be. Nothing wrong with the big public recognitions but I find the pressure to be extraordinary often gets shorthanded to some kind of notable public recognition which, I think, equals the approval of others, which seems to be at odds with the rest of her message.

St***:
When I was 21 I had to start using mobility aids and I was terrified of people judging me and my friend gave me similar advice along the lines of babe people may be around you, they may even look at you but most of the time what’s in their heads is things like ‘did I leave the cooker on?’ Or thinking about what they need from the shops, what they are going to present at work, when family’s birthdays are, etc. It’s rare that even when they’re looking at you that they’ll think about you let alone make a rude judgement. Brilliant advice that’s allowed me to use ANY mobility aid without even a thought and fully enjoy the freedom and support they bring
