I dare you to try this with expanding foam! :P

hold can upside down while charging so only air goes into can rather than spilling liquid. Nozzle had a straw that goes to bottom of can.

Bi*******:
ever thought of side reactions when filling up air (containing Oxygen) at high pressures into a can with inflammable liquids?
usually the propellant gas in a spray can is Butane. so U can fill it up like a gas lighter. U always should use the same gas like the manufacturer put into these cans.

Seems especially prevalent with wd40, ton of liquid slosh, its weird because other things like shaving cream seem to empty to the last drop.

How's your lawn doing in that spot? lol

Get messy or empty the remaining air first by pressing the valve of the can upside down...

i:
A face shield would be best. You do not want these chemicals getting into your mouth either. In case it does spray back during this process of pressurising the cans. Also, try to do this upsied down. As the dip tube inside the can is in the chemical and the pressure will cause the chemicals to come out. Doing it upside down will keep the chemicals away from the dip tube opening inside the can. The industrial method of manufacturing cans is highly soffisticated but you do want to get a good seal to prevent any chemical from coming out.

Pro tip: set the regulator with the nozzle open (spraying air) to get a more accurate setting.

A ball needle might be a better fit. Gonna definitely try this.

Thx for the tip but... I've never had a can that lost its air.
I did get an empty bag of Doritos out of a vending machine once. You talk about piiiissed.

Pa*******:
Just to be safe I would wrap the can in an old sheet or cloth just in case of explosion. That would hurt. Otherwise an excellent idea!

Hey Chris,
I see 800 comments, so this may already have been suggested.
Invert the 'empty of air' can upside down, hold the nozzle to clear the uptake pipe inside, doing this will prevent a mess as the fluid under gravity is now by the nozzle.
Now keeping the can inverted, and with that uptake pipe empty, you can continue to undertake either of your methods. You can tilt the can about 30 degrees depending on how full it is and where and what type of uptake pipe is inside.
If it's a straw type uptake pipe that is practically rigid, then the above works well, if it's a more rubber/silicon or a weighted uptake pipe then my suggestion doesn't work too well.
And my method doesn't work for can's that are designed to be used upside down, for those, your original method works best.
Just thought you might find that helpful to save making such a mess. It is however more difficult, but if you have a shelf in the workshop, then you could apply the upside down method against the underside of the shelf.
