Summary Comments : [America's Got Talent] Mike Super: Mystifier Uses Howie Mandel for Mathematical Magic - America's Got Talent 2014
An***********:
1. when you put the chalk, you release the paper that is on top with the word "Steve" that you hold with the finger all the time before you give them to Howie. 2. During the twisting the chalk becomes somehow a glue for the zodiac calendar. 3. Maybe the second before your show, you said something funny to nick with the number 23, any joke, or history so 23 will be for him the easiest number to choose. and 4. It is not a very difficult for you as a mentalist and to take information and find out, who is the most "emotional connected" to Howie or any other VIP..... (Mike, I'm a fan of you and i think that you are awesome on your performances. Please tell me form 1 to 10, How am I wight?)

Obviously the calender and Steve are already written on the chalkboard before the trick even starts. Howie's younger brother is Steve and in his book he mentioned his brother is probably the reason he became a performer. When people are asked to think about someone they have an emotional connection with and a first name they tend not to go for the obvious ones (wife and children), most people call their parents mom and dad so the name of a sibling is an educated guess I would say.
As for the number. Looking up the birth months of the judges beforehand is easy and add them up. With 23 it's easy to make the zodiac calender. All that he had to do is implant 23 in nick' brain with subliminal messages.

My best theory: There was no hands-on test to ensure that the chalk and the boards were actual chalk and chalkboard. "Here, take this piece of chalk and draw a line. Now erase it." - none of that.
More wild spec: NFC and electronics in the boards?
Ja********:
Omfg when he said think of a two digit number and i said freaking 23 and nick said 23 after
Pa****:
anyone know how he did this? I feel like maybe the chalkboard wasn't actually a chalkboard
Co*********:
Is it creepy that I thought 23 when he asked for the 2 digit number?
Th*********:
Illuminati confirmed?
Do***:
omg... HOW !? did anyone know !?
AN*****:
i was literally thinking the number 23 before nick said anything
El***********:
The number 23 is everywhere, only people who know what movie I'm talking about understands
Also, Nick is not "in" on it at all. Nothing is allowed to be prearranged. And that goes for ALL the magicians..not just me.
Another fun fact: You can't spell Desmond without M E. ;)
Also, if you remove the S and D in Desmond it gets scarier. LOL
Thanks for watching everyone! No matter what you believe, the only thing that is important is that you were entertained! :)
Namaste!

ILLUMINARTI CONFERMEDDD!!!!
Anyone know how the hell he did that lol
Av*******:
Well Nick obviously was tipped off beforehand to say 23 because the judges have only ever had one birth month each, that all add up to 23 and only 23. If Nick had said 24 or 22 it wouldn't have worked no matter what.
Ma*********:
He reminds me of a bit older version of Roman Atwood

This dude is nuts, no doubt. But this trick was a big step up from the audition, and it was confusingly entertaining.
=0
Cr****:
if nick said any number other than 23, the last bit with there month of birth wouldnt of worked...so nick HAD to say 23...
De**********:
Well obviously the number part had some mathematical explanation to it, but the rest I'm clueless. That was much better than the audition.
Su*************:
Desmond is da man haha
Un**********:
what if the random number had been greater than 48? than even if all four judges were born in december, it would be impossible to reach it
Ja*********:
This guy is like a older Collins Key

WHAT IF THEY LIED ABOUT THEIR BIRTHDAY LOL

This act always blows me away when I see it. Mike is definitely good at what he is doing and really has talent. If it is a trick then it was wonderfully pulled off, if it is not a trick then it does bring a more wonder into the world again. I can understand that the numbers might be prepared ahead of time. Although how he could have known, ahead of time, that Nick would randomly pick 23 is beyond me to understand. Just as how the name "Steve" could appear on the board so rapidly after being spoken surprises me. I have read that people think it could be a tablet or something that revealed the name after spoken but I do not agree. The board looks like a genuine chalk board (it has smudges of white from chalk, it doesn't have a glossy look to it like glass would, and when he circles numbers on it with the chalk the lines look identical to the color and shape of the numbers). So it does leave me adequately baffled on how he did it.
Look at the video when it goes to Nick back stage. Watch the reflection of the boards on the monitor screen Nick is viewing. As the boards are flipped by Howie, the studio lights reflect off the 'chalk' board(s) being held, exactly like a computer glassy screen. Slate, or dull chalk board material does not do that. You have to catch it quickly, but you can stop the video, start/stop quickly, and clearly see deep glass like reflections. Of course, the special screens designed for Mike give that normal opaque chalk board look, probably from high resolution screens and some excellent software algorithms.
Anyway...that is the only way I can see this being done.....unless they were staged, but as Super Mike said, that is not allowed. I believe him. So no other explanation. Tablets programmed for whatever number is spoken, name spoken (Mike probably momentarily actuating a button/device somehow after he asks question so only the answer is picked up by tablet mic), and the computer instantly generates a zodiac grid with appropriate numbers to add up to spoken number accordingly, in this case 23. And STEVE for that name question. Done.
Some spirit boards have hidden boards that drop into place when turned over, but not workable here IMO. If they are real chalk boards? Mike said no electronics involved. That would a lie straight away and dishonest. Again....if real chalk boards? Then wow.
Either computer tablets....or it is Desment!! @_@
