Summary Comments : [Insider] The Ending Of 'Parasite' Explained | Pop Culture Decoded

Le*******:
This is the first movie that really left an impact on me. I learned that:
1. I should treat people with respect
2. I've got a lot of good things going for me
3. Strive to understand people
4. Help those who are in need
5. Anyone can be a villain.

ro*******:
i love the parallel in the movie. when in the beginning of the movie, the Kim's family was eating stale bread that has bug (parasite) on it, and at the end of the movie in the scene of the party (15:03 on this video), the rich people white bread has their employees blood on it, which is their parasite. GENIUS !

sa*********:
2:54 in this scene he did not complain about the smell of her feet
And in the very next scene she is uncomfortable due to his smell

I can only imagine how Min would react after he comes back from his abroad trip and learns about the whole incident

Ki*********:

i’ve never seen such a great comment section

Ma***********:

After reading all these comments i realized indeed this movie is oscar winning movie.
Hats off to the director and his team.
Im so amazed by the comment section damnnn this movie is so deep

ju**********:

I'm late but did anyone notice how in the Kim's family in the beginning, they have to search for wifi even in their normal room but in the Park's family, they even got signal/wifi in the lowest part of their house, the basement.

Ra*****************:
"Planned actions are always better than random ones"
Son realized from father's mistake

Vi****:
Y'all are forgetting that the rich dad planned to do a fake attack on "Jessica" and the plan didn't work out the way he intended and she was actually stabbed.

Ce****:
I love how they foreshadowed that the old housekeeper keeps her husband in the basement when Mr. Park said that the old housekeeper's only downside is that she eats enough food for 2 people.

Sa******:

Another thing that struck me was how in the end, the son talks about his plan to liberate his dad from the basement which harkens back to their conversation in the gym about how no plan ever really works. That's how I knew that there wasnt any hope and this was a sad sad ending.

Ar****:

He also starts the letter to his dad with "I have a plan", revealing that his dad is left for dead in the basement

co************:
What I like about this film is that you can't really point out who the real villains are.

In***************:
In the beginning, the Kims looked up on YouTube on how to fold the pizza box in one-step, suggesting that they are looking for a quick and easy route towards wealth.

Pe**********:

At some point near the beginning, the father talks about losing his job because a taiwanese restaurant (I think) had to close down. Later, when they discover the husband of the old housemaid hiding in the basement, he says that he had debts because the taiwanese restaurant had to close down.

li*********:
Hey guys I've been watching parasite for the second time and here are some additional things I noticed:

Do you remember how the house wife told Jessica she would be the highlight of the party? Like literally she died.

Another thing right at the beginning when the son und his father poured water on the drunk guy, Jessica hold up her phone and points it right at them saying (at least the german subtitles) : "flood"
A foreshadowing to the flood later on

Also the psycho in the basement told in one shot that the former housekeeper that the only thing he got is love. When she died he totally lost it and turned to a massmurderer

NO****:

I really love this film. Everywhere you can find a hidden message, it’s just incredible. You need time to get used to this film but if you get it is it just a masterpiece

Ai***:

The party is the darkest part of the movie on the brightest day

De******:

Just done rewatching it and realize, when the scene of the Kim son holding his stone to hit the man who is peeing outside their window it become vice versa. He was the one who was hit by a stone.

MC******:

And i really hate people who didnt watch parasite because they dont want to read subtitles...
Tsk tsk tsk

Sa***********:
The picture the boy draw is of the man who lives in the basement.

Ya*********:

Epic movie, the tone of the movie changed totally once the maid came back..

Rm*:
Anyone noticed how there is a foreshadowing to the father’s anger when he grabbed his wife’s shirt when she made the cockroach statement?

CD**:

if this was a book, it would be every english teacher’s dream

the symbolism, the climax, the ending, this screams socratic seminar

Pa*******:

One thing i also noticed :
When Park's daughter asks Kevin about Jessica and suggests that he may be her boyfriend, he immediately denies and seems kinda nervous about it, making a whole story about meeting Jessica for the first time that day. When comparing both of the girls with flowers, Park's daughter checks Kevin's pulse on his wrist, just like he did on their first class. She then remembers what he had told her about the "heart never lying" thing and leans for a kiss, mistaking his fast pulse for feelings. What I really think is, that his fast pulse is not because he has feelings for her but the fact that he's been lying from the start and feels constantly nervous and pressured on not being caught

Da*************:

"This is metaphorical!" - Ki-woo

Re***:
Just throwing this out there: maybe Mr. Park was holding his nose in the end because he was within arms length of a man who hasn't showered in 4 years...

To***:

Parks daughter even carried kevin to safety. The only one who seen past the "smell".

Fl****:

'No art teacher lasts longer than a month' A foreshadowing to Jessica's inevitable death

ID**:
the whole movie was just like Jessica's character, she was even laughing while dying, so dark and deep

IN**********:
You know what's the scariest genre of all : reality

Ka******:
The whole comment sections is filled with A+ Students in English.

sa*********:

Ki-woo said the stone is literally clinging onto him
And in the end he was nearly killed by that stone
So in a way if he didn't carry the stone none of it would have happened

an*****:

Of course they would immediately start to flee. A crazy looking murderer with a knife was running around, how else would you expect them to react?

Th***************:
I’ve seen so many comments saying how all of this could have been avoided if they hadn’t let the old housekeeper in, but why isn’t anyone talking about how if they’d agreed to keep the housekeeper’s husband a secret + leave him food every two days, things would have worked out fine? The Ki family became everything they deplored. Chong-Sook found herself in a position of higher wealth & status than the old housekeeper, yet didn’t live up to her promise of ‘being nicer’ should she have found herself in that position. She was insistent on reporting the old housekeeper to the police. That was her choice. Wealth is the parasite.

Wh**:
This review keeps hammering on how being rich is a crime and being poor is an injustice. The Kims might be poor but they are ruthless and opportunistic; they are also lazy to the point that the whole family working together couldn't fold pizza boxes properly, yet have then the gall to protest when their pay gets docked.

Mr Park is also portrayed as a "rich patriarch who has no role in the upkeep of his own household": sure, I agree, but only if you exclude the most important roles of all in the upkeep of a household, which are purchasing it, maintaining it and bankrolling all the expenses. At no point did Mr Park ask anyone to switch on the lights and if Geun-se decided at any point to stop, it would ultimately be the master of the house who would have the issues looked into and fixed in no time. Ultimately, the value that Geun-se gets out of living for free as a trespasser in the basement far exceeds any amount of menial labour he can contribute to the family. Not only that, but in purchasing the property that comes with a secret bunker and then being duped into not being able to use it, the Parks are actually the ones being robbed out of a substantial portion of their home's value.

Ar********:
Reading these comments was the second best thing i did tonight

ad*********:
wow all of these comments are mind blowing. I have an observation to add, i noticed that the little boy (dasong) saw the lights flickering, and he knew it was morse code and unlocked the meaning but still chose to ignore it. i think it’s an analogy how people in general not just the rich, especially the young people choose to ignore important messages just because it’s out their comfort zone. Dasong didn’t tell his parents about maybe because it was raining and he didn’t want to get wet meaning young people don’t want to get their hands dirty because it’s not convenient. I’m just saying at this point lol it’s just a thought.

ka******:
No protagonists here. No happy ending for any one of them. They were all parasites in their own way... They all had such “fatal flaws”. The father depended on his children from coaching him to getting him a job. The mother refused to help Moon gwang even when they themselves were lying. “Jessica” faked everything from art therapy to certificates. The son made his move on the girl even after his friend who helped him get this job made it clear he liked her and the family trusted him to be with her. The rich father didn’t love his wife and hated the smell of the poor, the rich wife was completely clueless and enabled everything, the rich son was always inappropriate and the rich daughter was the only one that was not so flawed but didn’t really seem to have her priorities straight either. Every time something happened in the plot it was based on a lie. It was a house of cards that could not stand, and as soon as the rain came it washed it all away. I find this a morality tale about the perils of lying and fakery, no matter the class. It can’t last, and the shadow, whatever is lying in the basement, the unknown, will always creep out into the light and bring chaos and destruction.

Al******:

WOW I just noticed a small detail - notice how the ghost/man was allowed to freely walk from the basement to the garden of the house without a single person noticing him - even when he gets to the garden, with the knife in his hand, the rich are all facing the opposite way, turning a blind eye to the poor ghost/man that now stands amongst them - even the rich girl (Park's daughter) is seen walking downstairs and looking facing the garden door seconds after the ghost/man enters the garden and yet even then she doesnt see him

Its not only until it is too late, when he stabs Jessica, do the rich people notice, it is only until their convenience is turned into inconvenience, the shattering of their safe hierachal bubble, do they finally take notice and acknowledge the poor ghost/man.

Wow
