Actually, this song is about PTSD. Lady Gaga describes with chosen, accurate and cruel words what happens and how you feel when you’re in a full PTSD crisis. It’s pure torture. This is exactly what it is. The monster in your head is eating you alive, again and again. The trigger is the term used to define the moment and the regular circumstance that triggers a PTSD crisis. Something wakes the traumatic memory up and it’s over, you dive into your worst nightmare : it can be a talk, a meeting, a smell connected to the trauma.
I struggle with PTSD. And whereas I was in the worst moment of my life and desperately seeking for someone to help me and explain me what I was facing and how to defeat it, Lady Gaga’s witness on living with PTSD helped me in a way you can’t imagine. Thank you Gaga from the deep of my heart ! You’re an example to me !
I was just thinking, listening « Replay », « if I can dance on it, it means I’m better now, I won, life won and the monster in my head won’t come back anymore ». And so I did.
