I watch alot of video's on here and its how ive learned to work on my cars myself and you are by far the best at walking somebody thru something and explaining how and why parts work they way they do. You have saved me no telling how much money and headaches so i just wanted to tell you that all the time and work you put in these videos is appreciated. Thank you

Md********:

This was an extremely enlightening video that tells me not to neglect the importance of replacing the fuel filter. Great experiment, Chris!

Je***********:
best fuel filter test on net bud.... this is why i subscribe

Al************:

the amount of times Chris said “Fuel Filter” lmao

Ru*************:

So good! Fuel filter is one of the first 3-4 things I do within days of getting a new-to-me vehicle, no question!

di***************:
Years back cars had clear inline fuel filters. They also had a little window in the air conditioning lines so you could see the bubbles or lack there of . I miss both of those features.

ro*******:
Off to find out where my fuel filter is lol

Cr**************:

i love how he spends money on new fuel filters and cuts them open just to show you what a new one will look like

Je******:
Now I know why my dad always told me to never get gas when the tanker is also filling the station. It kicks up sediment from the underground tanks. Good to know these filters are doing their job!

Da****:

sadly all these new dang cars stick the fuel filter right in the tank with the fuel pump

Ja********:

man the way you pulled out that filter gave me a rush!

Ro************:

Drinking game

take a drink every time he says fuel filter

Ma*********:

Holy crap I like those ramps with the slide away piece!

Hi**********:
I bet that van even runs better since installing that new filter.

L*:

I love the quality of your voice over - you do great step by step with very good snippets of little details needed. Fantastic! the educational level is 10 out of 10 - I hate when people try and fill their videos with crappy B quality scripting and dialog, like This Old House does. Just quality education!

Jo****:
Thank you Chris for your time and dedication on making all of these videos and sharing your passion.

el*****************:
Thanks for the great video.

Sa***********:
Its amazing how his video style doesn't change much over the years, "done" ,"good" are just is so satisfying

Pr********************:
There's another 200K in that filter - I've had the same underpants on since 1996

Ry********:
My dad's 1988 Saab 900T still has its original fuel filter with 175k on the clock, and we've been having trouble getting it started. I'm willing to bet its probably a clogged filter.

Re***************:
Mechanic: if you need me for anything let me know
Me: I watch chrisfix videos
Mechanic: kills me with a ratchet

Jo***:

I change my fuel filter every 30k to avoid fuel pump problems and on the vehicles I do that on I haven't had a need to change the fuel pumps. I can't believe you of all people waited that long to change that filter...

E*:

My car has 140k and this makes me want to check my fuel filter now!

Another great video, Thanks Chris :)

un************:

That was great information about fuel filters. Thank you for sharing.

8a****:
I change my Jeep's fuel filter every 30,000 miles. After 31 years, it still has its original fuel pump.

SA*******:

SG***:

After changing the 300K filter, did you notice any improvement in performance or MPG?

Ev*******:
You sir have convinced me to change my fuel filter. Thanks :]

Great videos man. Keep em coming.

ic***********:
Well. My cars at 105K miles. Never been changed. Will be tomorrow

I just subbed and rung the bell =] I've watched tons of your videos on cleaning and stuff... so now I'm subbed. Anyhow, I have a few questions and a correction for you if you don't mind. How does the van run NOW with the new filter in it? Did you notice your fuel economy increase? Did you notice the power increase? You've been the original owner and driver so you'd be the best one to NOTICE these changes. The fuel pump doesn't have to "work harder" on a old clogged crappy filter... The pressure it produces is static and it won't hurt it pumping to a new or old filter. It actually produces MORE than enough pressure and a lot of the fuel is returned via the fuel rail when the system is working properly. When the fuel filter is clogged up like yours, you actually lose delivered fuel volume as you saw in your test, even under pressure. The COMPUTER will advance the engine and adjust injectors to compensate for this fuel deficiency... up to around 25% (If I remember correctly). If it's losing MORE than 25% volume, the system can NOT compensate and you will be running lean, producing intermittent misfires, poor power and terrible gas mileage. This is all part of the DESIGN btw and is INTENDED. Not going to go into why and how shady it all is.. but that's the truth. I just bought an 05' Ford F150 for a work truck. It's in great shape both in and out, no leaks. It did however have difficulty on start up after driving just a short distance then being turned off (like down the street to the gas station or store). It also was getting terrible gas mileage and seemed to be under powered. Also, under load when I would give it more gas to power up a hill or tow the trailer, it would misfire here and there (stumbling). I got it super cheap, only $3K because the owner didn't know what was wrong with it and thought it might have engine trouble. $10 for the new fuel filter and it's like a new truck.. tons of power, fuel economy restored to it's stock crappy gas mileage =] and no more misfires. I also did a compression test and leak down test to make sure all the cylinders were fine and there wasn't a different problem producing these negative results pre-new filter. Everything came back in the green. Incredible how a 10 dollar part can make someone think there is a serious problem and get rid of the vehicle. Good job FORD, Government, EPA... they did what you wanted... AND bought a new truck. Let me know about the questions above, I'm curious if you noticed any changes in the van's performance.
