2:42 "Try not to be sloppy!"
*In Chris's head: Dammit Chris, all of youtube now is going to think you're an idiot. Gosh why do I even try"

Em*******:
3:18 Great camera work. And the sound gives the perfect message. Don't ever think that you'll flush all the dirty fluid out till you turn your wheel, otherwise you'll be surprised how you'll drown in the dirty fluid :)

Ju***************:
QUESTION: At min 3:10, did you turned the steering wheel without starting the engine? It seemed to be locked with my car, so I idled it and turned the steering wheel. However, it made the clicking-clacking sound which scared me. Did I just damage a part of the system!? Thank you in advance.

Few extra tips and info :

- This is a 2 people's job, when you're about to start the car the whole fluid will be sucked in therefore leaving the pump run dry and cause internal damage to the pump, make sure that someone's pouring the fluid into the reservoir as soon as you start the car

- some cars are VERY difficult to get the whole system flushed out , while other cars have an electric power steering pump

- If the whining noise won't go away, that means your power steering pump needs rebuild, if it's cheaper and easier bet it all replaced

- Some cars have electric steering or manual steering

my power steering works good. but the fluid is black. should I bother changing it? ppl in the comments say they flushed it only to screw themselves over?? suggestions?

Am I the only little kid watching who doesn’t know anything about this or has a car but still enjoying the video?

It still amazes me when i see people who earn thousands during income tax but don't put 1 cent into their cars to maintain them and keep them going! i always see cars broken down and abandoned on the side of the highway and most of the time they look like uneducated kids. I plan on teaching my daughter starting this year when i pick up a used car im purchasing. Shes autistic but high functioning and shes so excited to help out with fixing things.

Hey Chris :) I have a 1998 camaro standard.. When the car is in neutral and I'm braking to say turn left or right the steering wheel becomes hard.. But when I apply gas (in nuetral) it becomes easy to move.. Any ideas?

To*************:

So far I've changed my own oil, brakes and rotors, alternator, fuel pump, coolant flush....using your videos!! Thank-you Chris!!

AL**:

Imagine having to change the power steering fluid

This comment was made by the electric power steering gang

Bo**********:

I did this procedure over a couple of days of emptying reservoir and refilling oil after getting home. This works perfectly. The system only has about a quart and I saved about $130. Simple and effective.

co*******:
I'm a virgin and even I was able to replace my power steering fluid with this video! Thanks!

Zo****:
all your tutorials are great !

Ro********:

First step of sucking out the power steering fluid from the reservoir is fine. But I was concerned about second step where you start your engine and turn steering lock to lock so as to bring some more fluid in reservoir. The reason why I am concerned about this step is when you turn on your car and turn steering lock to lock with initial fluid sucked out, air would go into the power steering pump and can damage it? Is my concern valid?

I also need to do power steering fluid change. I was thinking if I should just suck out fluid from reservoir and fill it back, or if I should start the car and turn steering lock to lock so as to suck out extra fluid before adding new fluid?

Thanks for your great videos!

Le*:
why is this in my recommendations when my powersteering just went bad?

Ru*********:

thank you!!! We did this with our van that had really old looking fluid and we fixed it. I think we still have a little air in our system but our van improved by 95%.

What would we do without Chris fix.

Chrisfix for president!

ff****:

What's going on with your check engine lights that are glowing?

jk********:
Watched this one and the full flush video. Decided that the best option for me (not being able to mess up the driveway in my community), was to turkey baste out what I could and refill once a week until the stuff I basted out was clean and pink. Chrisfix has open my eyes to the possibilities of a turkey baster.

Di***********:
When do I know it's time to change the Power Steering Fluid?

Wi**********:

Hey Chris, crazy question. In worse case scenario. Your stuck in the middle of no where. You lose all your power steering fluid and the only thing you have is transmission fluid. Can you use it?

CW*******:
My wife's boyfriend let me change the power steering fluid with this video! Thanks!

Re******:
when cars boasted fuel injection:(

Ni*********:
Just used this method on my car tonight and it worked like a charm. I used ATF+4 automatic trans axle liquid. The steering feels great and no humming noise! Thanks Chris!

Ma****:
My manual says PSF3and apparently that's not in production anymore, what should I use? My car is Hyundai Tiburon 2006

Is power steering fluid the same as automatic transmission fluid?

Da****:
I still heard the whining noise after you changed it but ok

I am an absolute *unt and even i was able to change my power steering fluid.

gu***********:
I paid almost 120 dollars to get it changed

I'm a vegetable and even I was able to replace my power steering fluid with this video! Thanks!

Bi**********:

I know you jacked up the car to make turning the wheels easier. What would be the damage if you turned the wheels with the car not jacked?

an****:
Does anyone know if this would work on other fluids?

Ty**********:
Can you please make a video on changing the power steering pump

Di***********:
Hey Chris, could you please do a video on what to Check and make sure what your car needs once every week/month? For example power steering, oil, and coolant... I don't know much about cars and I would like to know what to Check in my car once in a while.

Ca************:
Hi ChrisFix. This is outstanding! Your attention to enough details to inform the viewer of
the who, what, why and how is outstanding. Your narrative voice is clear, quick-to-the-point and professional and the overall quality is very well done. I was very impressed on your steps that explained the sound of the P/S pump, how the old fluid looks compared to the new fluid, as well as the actual nuts and bolts of changing some of the fluid. As a retired scientist, college professor and avid DIY guy, quality is in the details - and you nailed it. I am happy to give you a thumbs-up and subscribe to your channel. Excellent! Thank you.

Okay so I've just done this today, here's some tips (I've never done this before and a complete car novice).
My master cylinder had a filter insert which must stop objects going in and stops you draining any oil, this can be pulled out and then you can access it. Use a proper turkey baster or pump, I tried to use a trigger spray bottle and this didn't work so ended up using a syringe from my medicine cabinet. Don't turn the ignition or engine on when turning the wheels the first time as this will cause the pump to run dry, do it with the key in the first position so the steering lock is turned off, if possible.
Other than that it was quite simple, you'll be fine! I'm going to repeat the process again in a few days so I've cleaned it thoroughly.
