It's really a shame that this EXCEPTIONAL series serves as a prequel to Z Nation. Tonally, both are so drastically different that they don't even seem to be related at all. The direction, the cinematography, the editing, the acting, are ALL amazing in Black Sunday where at times, Z Nation seems a bit corny ("I give you mercy." Really?) and even whimsical at times regarding the guy who has an immunity to the disease, opposed to the very grave tone of Black Summer. Looking at this series and knowing that this later becomes Z Nation makes me a bit sad because the potential for this to have grown into its own great thing is a missed opportunity. For example, The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, both work together, tonally. Calling this a prequel to Z Nation wasn't needed and even diminishes Black Summer, somewhat in my eyes due to its wasted potential and desire to tie this in with Z Nation.

Season 1, episode 1. A mute guy stands around looking helpless, waiting for anything bad to happen. Repeatedly. Just stands around waiting.

Season 1, episode 4. A guy walks into a building because the door is not locked. He makes his way up and on to the roof. Then, rather than walk back down the same way, he decides for no reason whatsoever to risk life and limbs clambering down the outside walls clinging to a downpipe, and has a tumble at the bottom. Same guy, every time he's running away from zombies, literally stops and looks back while the zombies are coming, so they get closer.

Every episode: It's the USA, and only one person has a gun.

Moral of the story: In Black Summer, only the stupidest and least capable people survive. Oh, and you should leave all the doors open.

this series has so many faults but man.
this is probably the best zombie show i've ever seen.
it just really amazing at conveying the chaos, the mass confusion and the realism of an apocalyptic scenario.
so many zombie movies and shows fail to do this, but here every moment is suspenseful
instead of seeing a massive amounts of zombies and a few humans, you see a few zombies at first, and you see so many normal people around trying to survive, all losing their humanity in the process to their primitive instincts.
the show tries to instill fear through confusion and it works out brilliantly, you'll find yourself asking so many questions the entire time you're watching.
there is no heroism here, only survival and fear.
if you love zombie movies/shows, this one is a must.
update: nvm this is the dumbest shit i've ever seen in my life, murderous school children.... lel.
