Playtime Comments : [Vox] Why these all-white paintings are in museums and mine aren't

Mr********:
1:09 "there's usually alot more than meets the eye"
Me: yeah, like money laundering

We********:
3:30 "I'm not going to try to find meaning in a red circle on a blank white canvas"

Japan has entered the chat

Wo*****:

3:20 'what you see is what you see'

Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes

Ja*********:
4:30 "when you're looking at a square of white paint, you have to do a lot more work." Imagine going to the movies and watching a white screen with subtle changes for 90 minutes and the director says that you have to do the work to interpret it. The pompousness is unbelievable.

Da**********:
5:45 Her description of processing modern art, reminds me of changing diapers.

Pe*********:
1:02 I'm pretty sure it is actually that easy

An********:

3:27

...the rising sun...

Ur********:
3:54 Love the ‘Kyle out of context’ clip there.

ES**:
4:52 "it requires alot skills to paint white ."
Show me how much effort does it take to paint white.

Ro**********:
3:27 “What you see, is what you see”

EL***:
I just realized theres a large painting behind Elizabeth

Al********:
I'm sorry, I'm too poor to understand this.

Ly***********:
When your 4-year old’s crayon scribbles have more artistic merit than modern art

wh*********:

This is like releasing a 3 hour long movie that is just a white screen and being like "Oh,,the viewer has to imagine their own movie"

PL********************:
*Shows a bunch of videos saying modern art is pretentious

Continues to show why modern art is pretentious

n:
artist who forgot he had a painting due today: *empty canvas*

this lady: this says a lot about society

Ka*******:

Let’s be honest, we don’t really care about the art pieces it’s self. We just mad that it goes for millions.

Ro******:

“You could have done it, but you didn’t. It’s about the idea as well.”
And who determines which “ideas” are worth millions of dollars?

This world of art is a bunch of elites circle-jerking how their opinion determines a piece of art’s value. Art is completely subjective. There are so many people with actual artistic skill that will never amount to an artist who paints a canvas white. I’m not even saying minimalism shouldn’t be a thing, but the pretentious attitude is why modern art is mocked so much.

Thankfully, I am colourblind and couldn’t draw a stickman if you paid me, so I can’t get too mad. But then again, the fact I can hold a pencil probably means I’m overqualified to draw nonsense.

Pa*:

Guys, stop with all these comments about this being absolutely ridiculous,,, I can't like them all

Ka********:

The artist who painted the white canvas is not the the artist. I had to invision the art on the canvas myself using my imagination. Thus making me the true artist. Now give me my 20 million.

Xq***:
No, thanks. I rather spend my time watching Bob Ross draw a mountain than this bs.

gh***:

Let me just threw a bucket of white paint on a canvas
That would be 20 million dollars please

Sa******:

This is like Chanel selling a white t-shirt and say u have to imagine it as something else and sell it for 1 million

Da*************:
I'm sorry but this was quite worthless and pretentious and tried unsuccesfully to make us feel empathy for the white canvases

sh*********:
“you could do it, but you didn’t.”

this is so pretentious oh my god

ra****:
Minimalists sound like those kids in class who do absolutely nothing and yet get the same grade as the kids who work their butts off

Am****:
I'm sorry I really tried to be open minded but it's still nonsense

Ti******:

I appreciate art, I'm open minded, but I know that this is absolute lazy garbage.

Bg******:

"I call it Bold and Brash"
"More like Belongs in The Trash"

My*************************:

One of my favorite art quotes is “when art asks the question ‘what is art, really?’ it has to be prepared for the answer to be ‘not that’”

MA**********:

"This white dot symbolises life"
"Where's the dot?"
"It's dead"
$19.5mn

My***************************:
It's obviously a painting of John Cena

Ni*********:

Teacher: I asked you to solve the problem? It’s blank.

Me: I did. It’s not my fault you choose not to imagine the answer.

H*:
Art piece:

I’ll be waiting for my 65.7M

Ob******************:
I can find deep meaning and evoke emotions internally while staring at a pack of gum. I am the one doing it though. Not the Gum package designer. The praise and acclaim for these pieces, comes from the artists reputation and the willingness of the viewer to do all of the "Art" themselves.

Pa*******:
“I could do that”
“Yeah, but you didn’t.”
Bathroom Wall: “Sure, I did.”

Br**********:
I'm just glad that everyone caught how racist this is.

Th***********:
"red circle on a white canvas, no meaning"
me: Japan?

An********:
The correct answer is “tax evasion/money laundering” thanks
