I just finished watching the 8 episodes and I can easily say it isn't for everyone. It is very whimsical and I feel it has the ambience of Pushing Daisies. (and I LOVE pushing Daisies)  I have never read the book but seen the 2004 movie, the one with Jim Carrey. I liked the whole concept of the children overcoming the frustrating events so when I heard they were making a series I was excited. For me, I enjoyed every bit of it and I COULD NOT LOOK AWAY. It was corny, tiresome at times yet, I could not LOOK AWAY. Everyone's acting skills were spot on although Mr. Doggie Houser Neil Patrick was over the top, I ENJOYED his performance very much. The story is very well thought of. I cannot wait for season 2. Just don't think about REALITY sometimes and just enjoy the show. I love love this show a lot.

I remember being too scared to read the books as a kid (the movie creeped me out). Now as an adult, I just finished watching the series and loved it so much that I’m in the process of reading the books. (And boy was I missing out!)

All these people saying "never can top the original movie" And i'm here like, dude, you mean ORIGINAL BOOKS. The 2004 movie was absolutely terrible, and was nothing like the books. Bravo to netflix for getting most of the details right in the show adaptation. This is way better. And I've been watching this the whole day, after a while you get used to the style of the show and it doesn't seem very plastic-ey and fake.

this looked like a remake of the movie but made exactly the same way and all the actors felt the same aswell. not saying thats a bad thing because I loved that movie as a kid but lemeny snicket felt more real with jude law. I wished they made this series look a little different. count olaf just looks like a guy playing jim carrey as count olaf. i wish they brought something completely new to the table instead of looking at the film for inspiration but I dont mind..this will be like a continuation of the movie which im syked for

I totally side with the people who cal it a straight-up comedy. Klaus getting struck across the face had me rolling. And Olaf threatening to cut off one of Sunny's toes is classic screwball material. Oh, and Josephine getting eaten alive by leeches! How hysterical was that?

This is a review of A Series of Unfortunate Events:spoiler alerts!

Hi. My name is Liam and I'm 13 years old. I owned all of these books for the past 3 or 4 years but never got to reading them.

When I saw the trailer I thought I'd give it a shot. My friend told me the season covers the first four books, so that's all I've read so far.

I loved the books, while it was a dark topic it was so funny and ironic how the only smart people in the book are the orphans.

After the books, I saw the movie. It loosely covered the first 3 books and looked very depressing, not really showing the comedic irony from the books that I loved. I thought Jim Carrey did an OK job. But I didn't like how it ended on a cliff hanger.

Next, I saw the show. It was way better than the movie and was a great adaptation of the book, given that IT WAS CO-WRITTEN BY THE AUTHOR OF THE BOOKS DANIEL HANDLER. The sets were marvelous even though some tech was ahead of its time in the show given that it takes place in the 50s/60s. I felt much more attached to the care givers considering we got almost an hour learning about them instead of 15 minutes. I loved the acting, Neil Patrick Harris did great as Olaf, very smart-alicky (if that's a word) at times and it was great. I can't say much about Violet Klaus and Sunny, but I did think the actors for them did really good in the show.

Overall, I reccomend this show to anyone of all ages.

This trailer gave me the feeling that it's gonna be less faithful than the feature film. Why is Klaus taller than Violet? Also online, ONLINE!!!! There was no internet in the books. Sure the earliest and primitive forum of the computer exists in this universe but never modern day technology, save for earlier versions of TV, Cars and Radio. That joke felt shoehorned in there for the millennials. They better cut or retake it with something else. Also having the internet in this would make Klaus ability to remember everything he read pointless. Also didn't they say it was gonna be darker than the books? This makes it look all whimsical and funny. I still don't like Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket. His voice is to monotone and booming. Movie Lemony got it right. He had a mysterious voice, something you most like hear from a P.I. in old noire movies.

Looks good, I'll just miss the darker tone the movie established (with the exception of Jim Carrey's comical portrayal of Count Olaf). And I'll miss Emily Browning as Violet. I am, however, really excited they brought Catherine O'Hara back (and for The Miserable Mill!). I freaked out! And Joan Cusack as the Judge is a great replacement for O'Hara. I hope they find a way to bring back other actors from the movie such as Browning and Meryl Streep.

I'm just a little disappointed the VFX in this won't be as realistic as the 2004 movie. Remember the house falling in The Wide Window act? Man, that was epic. So, I'm not really excited for the first 3 books (or 6 episodes) in the TV series, but everything after that I am.
