So basically what he is trying to convey is :failure is better than the regret of not trying

I find it ironic that Veritasium, the element of truth, was made up

The world is a better place with your science videos in it. Keep amazing us Derek — Kyle

If everyone realized how bad they are on camera when they first start, youtube wouldn't exist. I'm glad you stuck with it. (I'm also equally glad you got a lot better. ;) )
All The best

As a 33 year old who doesnt feel he has reached his lifes purpose or dreams, a guy who lives alone without a family.... your story fills me with hope and inspiration for my future. Your reflection is so deep and your content now is better than its ever been. THanks for sharing :)

My opinion is that your videos have extremely high quality and educational value. I think you could be producing documentaries for Netflix, BBC, PBS more often
I feel like Veritasium is the best element of all, even if it is imaginary. I am also a fan from Australia and I highly respect your decision of starting Youtube. You’ve helped me and a lot of my friends in science and physics.
Respect
most importantly he always had a pattern: shift to something else when deemed necessary.
And now he's shifting his time to spend it with his family, which I think is the most important
thing shown in the video...Seriously loved this video so much, thank you

Your path to Youtube was very unique, but I still thought that it was eerily similar to mine. I was also stuck in that mode of following a fixed path through academia, but I always felt like it was missing the creative part that I needed. I ended up quitting my chem masters and I intended to apply to film school. However, before I was able to do that, the Youtube channel had taken off and I was able to shift my focus to it. The first couple of years were shaky with a lot of doubts, but now I don't see how I could do anything else.

Derek this is such a lovely video! I would love to see Raquel and your kids on your channel more — experiments you try at home filmed in a really cool way, like everyday physics phenomena with drones and slow mo cameras and so on.

OMG
You are inspirational
Thanks so much
This line really struck: Sometimes its blessings not to know how bad you are

This is the first ever "thank you" video that makes me tear up :') I've been following you for a long time, and seeing what you achieved and what your life has become genuinely makes me HAPPY for you.
So, thank YOU Derek, for everything you've done for us. You deserve your beautiful life.
That cut was so perfectly timed that it sounded like a completely irrelevant transition in the same clip

Wow, amazing

Fun fact: Steven Spielberg was rejected from the University of Southern California’s film school 3 times - as well as being rejected by University of California Los Angeles!

Great video, thanks for being so honest. Your next videos should be about how to be a better classroom physics teacher, for those of us who go to the classroom everyday to teach the wonders of physics and science to high school students around the world. If you are looking for a partner let me know, after teaching science for 20 years I have a few ideas.

And the funny thing is that you'll look back at this video in a few years and feel uncomfortable. Never stop growing! :)

Love that you are Canadian!

You’ve always been a gigantic inspiration to me. I owe a lot to you and the other Edutubers who paved a little bit of the way for us. I’m glad for your growing family too, though, because Aunt Dianna needs some test subjects...

My brain likes your narration so much that when i was reading a book ,subconscious mind started reading in your voice.
I just wanted to say I'm from Brazil and you were a great source of inspiration for me to start making science videos to the Brazilian community. I'm still an undergrad in physics, which I decided to pursue because of you and your work.
YouTube changed my life, I've always wanted to be a filmmaker. Making videos changed who I wanted to be in the future. It changed my career. It changed everything!
I love your work and I want to tell you how much of an inspiration you were to me. How your videos changed who I wanted to be. Who knows how many other lives and people you have inspired? Your videos are definitely making a change in the way we teach.
I love your work! Thanks for everything you've done and accomplished. YouTube is a better place because of you.
From a Brazilian fan.
Hi***************:
I´m a law Ph.D student, I have studied law and philosophy at college and really enjoy your videos. They open a window to truths otherwise hidden or disregarded and I feel that they truly help the most of the times to become more aware of the overwhelming and fascinating reality we are too used to being embedded in without realizing (TS Eliot said mankind cannot bear too much reality). They are really insightful and had fostered me to study (a little) of physics and chemistry basics (I can no longer bear such ignoranceee!!). When I overhear someone saying that in youtube you cannot but waste your time, well, I just recall your videos and smile. Don´t know why but really can´t help myself to be really happy that you have succeed and really hope the (un)determined –yet anyways unpredictable– future (poor Laplace) will bring you and yours more and more joy! Thank u and please keep blowing our minds tiling the plane with finite pieces yet infinitely and UNPERIODICALLY!

I am so amazed that I finally found your channel. My science professor required us to watch the dragons awake and the other videos which hahaha I forgot the title... Something like that and I am so amazed from the videos that you are into and even cried for a little when the part where animated videos, the children are kind of playing and they were hit by the bomb or the particles of the bomb. Anyway, I'm so happy that I found your channel and everything of your videos are just incredibly beautiful and even makes me curious. Thank You a lot. Though, this overwhelming words (I think) are not related from this video, but I just want to be thankful that I kinda be part of your journey. That's it. Thanks
