Yeah, and into southern Canada.
Kodak really underestimated how beneficial this lawsuit could have been.

7:29 I like how the fallout respects borders and doesn't enter Canada.
No******:
9:09 it's great to see a map where the radiation fallout observes boundaries and borders.
It looks very hot (red) in the North
er*********:
9:00 very kind of the US government to stop the fallout from crossing the Canadian border

8:49 - The audio clip from an old government film says that tests showed radioactive fallout increased only a small amount, along with the chances of mutations. And he says all of that while the film shows a collection of humans who turned into rabbits.

It's funny how the fallout stops at the border with Canada. How considerate to not invade other countries.

The hardest thing for me to wrap my mind around is that the United States has detonated over 1,000 nuclear bombs. I think it's easy to perceive that there have been only a handful, the ones dropped in World War II and a few tests since, but that's far from the truth. Close to 2,000 nuclear bombs have ever been detonated globally that we know of. That's a lot of radiation.
Government: How about, INSTEAD of we lose money, you shut up for free and we'll tell you when you need to shut up for free.
Kodak: ok o.o

Specialist: Advises the military where to safety conducts tests.
Military: Lets do the opposite.

I worked for Kodak Research Labs for several years at the research complex in Rochester, NY (which was a great experience!) along with 7,000 other scientists, engineers, and technicians. After I left there I discovered that there was a secret, licensed operating nuclear reactor in one of the adjacent KRL buildings which was decommissioned once KRL was finally shut down. The reactor secretly operated for over thirty years, and was finally shut down in 2007 (when it's 5 lbs of uranium were removed).

I also want to mention the low-background steel. As modern steel is processed using atmospheric air, any steel produced after the testing has significant amount of contamination from radionuclides. However, steel made before Trinity doesn't and therefore has got an application in radiation sensitive equipments such as Geiger counters. This type of steel is usually salvaged from ships that sunk before 1945. There is a Wikipedia article about this with some references at the bottom, and you can probably find more info on the internet.

Great video and I learned a lot! Thank you!
Also, I couldn't help but notice the background in your onsight location while you narrated most of this video. Is this the old missile silo in the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy located above Encino and the San Fernando Valley to the north and Los Angeles to the south divided by and on Mulholland Drive?
They were used by the US Military in the second world war. The silos (and there are many more) were built to house and if need be, to fire missiles at Japanese warships had they come too close to large west-coast American cities. Thankfully, they never had to be used.
Fun fact: Your particular silo guest-starred in Eddie Murphy's movie "Golden Child" as a location shoot.
