Am**:
That awesome professor never failed to surprise me thorough the video:
1. First, he keep a meteorite in his house
2. Then he went on explaining things in his eccentric egg chair
3. Then he showed us his dinosour head decoration in his yard
4. Finally he used his two favorite countries, France and Germany, as an example on how they can be obliterated by a 1 km size meteorite

The asteroid that hit our moon during the solar eclipse in 2019 was probably the closest one to our planet.

bo*:
If you’re afraid that the world might end to an astroid, don’t worry since there are plenty other ways the world might end.

Jo*************:
Seeing most asteroids before they hit earth is as likely as seeing bugs before they hit your windshield while you're driving 70 miles per hour.

This damnable pandemic is as close to extinction-level event as I wanna get. When the world shut down, it was the oddest, creepiest feeling I've had since the skies were completely devoid of planes on 9-11.
I lived near a small airport and the largest USAF base, so was used to hearing and seeing planes continuously. Such quiet skies were as unnerving as they were unusual.

But the pandemic killing in droves, shutting down so many businesses, driving us all indoors, interrupting commerce and travel, plus everything else it did was just a teeny tiny sampling of what life would be like if something major occurred.
For me, it put a spotlight on how fragile our societal system truly is. "It made me wish for the return of simple things, like ordering something online, and it actually being delivered in a timely manner or at all, or being able to go have a meal somewhere. Those simple things, -- meaningless in the grand scheme of human survival -- showed us how soft we are as a species now, how reliant we are on our technology.

Imagine if the world went dark for some reason -- no electricity anywhere. How many would die from that loss alone? I mean, it's always winter somewhere.Multitudes would needlessly perish. The elderly, the very young and the infirm would be the first victims... and I'd almost count them as the lucky ones. But knowing they counted on us to protect them.......

If/when another large strike occurs... the devastation will long outlast the impact's immediate damage. We'll end up destroying ourselves by warring over things like clean water, food, decent shelter -- things we VERY much take for granted today. I shudder to think how life would/will be for those people, and ask the space gods to never send another Chicxulub our way; not even its little brother, please!
