(Recommended)Popular Videos : [Veritasium] How Far Away is the Moon? (The Scale of the Universe)

This time, I will review the popular YouTube videos.

These days, even if it's good to watch on YouTube, sometimes people skip it or don't watch it if it's too long.

When you watch Youtube, do you scroll and read the comments first?
To save your busy time, why don't you check out the fun contents, summary, and empathy comments of popular YouTube videos first and watch YouTube?

Summary Comments : [Veritasium] How Far Away is the Moon? (The Scale of the Universe)

sr*******:

He did his home work, the actual Earth to Moon diameter ratio is 3.669 (6378.1 km/1738.1 km) which not much different than Basket Ball to Tennis Ball diameter ratio which is 3.597.

Good Job Veritasium

0:40 That teen is clever

Mr**********:
1:00 - the building behind you reminds me of a structure in the game Myst- or rather Riven .
(A.D.D. moment.)

Al***********:
1:20 LOL! I used that fact to calculate the distance. xD

Je***********:
1:30 our nearest star is our sun...

Sc**********:

0:20 is that UpAndAtom?

1:20

Jo**********:

0:35 Oh, that's close!

tu******:

Watching this for first time in 2020. It's fun to see such a young Derek starting out with just a idea and a his tiny wired microphone. Reminds me of what he said in his "My Life Story" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1tFT4smd6E&t=402s by the way, is that AOC at 0:33 ?

I'd like to see a similar take on how far away an electron would be from a hydrogen proton.

Ve*****:
laughing uncontrollably at the thought of one guy taking the tennis ball and just YEETing it into the distance

Mi************:

Sun to Earth 499+ seconds or 8 minutes and 19 seconds.

Ha*************:

Why didn't you show us the reaction all of the people when you showed them the truth?

Ku********:

8minutes of silence for the light coming to earth

Vi*********:
omg its veritaserum the harry potter truth potion

Je****:
Just the fact how the nearest star is 4 light years away shows how snall we are.

Go*****************************:
The earth is about 4,000 miles across, or 1.7 Americas, and the moon is 168,000 miles away, so the moon is about 76 Americas. Earth: 1.7, 76 to Moon. COINCIDENCE? Boom, history started 239 years ago. JOHN HANCOCK BABY

Do**********************:

Roughly about there...
Him: no your wrong

Gets a pin out and stabs the basketball...

Him: THE EARTH IS FLAT

Nu*******:

Plottwist:

Actually, the tennis ball was the Earth.
And the basketball was your mom.

bl********:
I typically am not moved by cute guys who decide to grow beards, but ugh... he's got me hooked on his sexiness!

Wi***************:
You know, it would be better if you explained the calculation. From memory, the diameter of the earth is about 8,000 miles and the moon is about 250,000 miles from us, or a bit more than 30 earth diameters away. The diameter of a basketball is about a foot, I think, so the distance to the moon would be 30-odd feet on that scale. You could google all these numbers to get more accuracy, but if you stopped me on the street and asked, I would do the rough calculation. Odd bits of information don't stick in the memory unless you go through the process and use them; or to put it another way, science is a method, not a collection of facts. I also doubt the educational value of making people look stupid. .

I was just facepalming until the girl actually moved a bit.

We meet again, fellow traveler.
I have received the answer I was searching for, now I must continue my journey through the long forgotten depths of youtube.
We'll cross paths again, if the good algorithm will decide that is our destiny.
Farewell, fellow traveler, hope you will find the answers you seek.

Fi**:

Fun fact you can fit every plant inbtween the earth and the moon, including pluto

St**************:
Yeah it is partialy true that there are som misconseption about space and space travel, like :

Oh we will just go to Mars, than moon Europa, than we leave Solar system and we will colonize entire galaxy.

Which is such a stupid concept...
We don’t even know if getting to another star system is doable! We heard that light travels 4 years to another star, and that is a light, not space rocket engine or someting which is extremely slow compared to light....

su**********:
If the erth would represent the entire universe, how big would the earth its self be?  @Veritasium   @2veritasium

Lu**********:
The moon is 0.0016 light years away

As*************:

Everyone's talking all smart and i'm all "Oh, look at that dog in the background."

Vo**********:

8 minutes to a sun, 4hours to our nearest star?Isn't sun a star?

pl*************:

No matter how big you think space is, it's bigger.

Zi****:

Luckily I have the Kerbal Space Program to thank for knowing the accurate rough distance between Earth and Moon before seeing this video.

Gr*********:

238,900 miles from the moon to Earth. Remember the Earth has a Diameter of 7,918 miles. So when you make a real distance measurement. Remember that the Moon is 30.1 Earths away. So using a Basketball. Just lay it down on the ground. Then mark off 30 Basketballs then place the tennis ball down. That will be your distance. Pretty Cool huh.

Gr*********:

I just love the way the young lady says "The moon?" five seconds into the clip. I actually spent about eleven minutes just watching that one second of the clip over and over again...

Om***************:

nonsense.... the earth is flat

Mi***********:
All the planets in our solar system fit between the earth & the moon, with room to spare.

Da********:
I would have just created the imaginary space for 8 of those basketball circumfrences

Mi******************:

I grow frustrated that models neglect empty space. Most of space is empty and that makes [space] more interesting.

So I created a "map" of the solar system using photoshop (I should have used a vector based program, oh well). My intent was to show the average space between orbits of planets. I didn't pay much attention to Kepler's 1st law because planetary orbits are not really that excentric. Furthermore, I would have had to make the map much more detailed and as a consequence, much bigger. The sun was 2 units (pixels) in diameter and the and the orbit of Neptune was about 1000 cm away from it.

Mu*****:

With regard to creating things "not too scale" in order to show detail causing problems while learning....

I'm Canadian, and I have an American friend who thought for the longest to time thought that the US was an ISLAND because all the maps he saw in geography class growing up did NOT show bordering countries Canada and Mexico attached. These maps would show the US surrounded by nothing but "blue water"

This is why "exceptionalism" is taught in US schools instead of reality and facts. In Southern States, school children are mislead about the civil war
