Top Comments : [Vox] Why women’s clothing sizes don’t make sense

Sa******:

try buying dresses when youre a 2 up top and a 6/8 bottoms... thats when the real fun begins

me**********:
Shopping for jeans is the WORST. I can be a 0 or an 8!

da********:
Why is it that womens clothes are in arbitrary numbers but mens clothes are nearly always in measurements?
I'm a 32 waist jeans.. not a 2 or 5 or whatever, I wonder if that also has to do with vanity..

Saying you're a 5 or whatever let's you kinda hide your real measurements, even though it seems to make shopping much harder. As a guy, I can pretty much order any clothes online, sight unseen and be confident that it will fit.. (except shoes! Ugh more dumb arbitrary numbers!)

Fe***************:
I am a medium size, generally. But the one time I went to Forever 21 it was so ridiculous. I was an extra large. I honestly don't care what label is on my clothes as long as they fit me comfortably, but going in there as an average sized girl and finding out that I was the biggest size (excluding the plus size section, which was extremely reduced and none of the clothes were actually flattering) made me feel so bad for the people that are bigger than me because honestly, those sizes just didn't make sense.
The only good side I can see to that is that girls who are very thin or petite can find clothes that fit them there, or at least I hope!

Pe*******************:
This is my problems that drives me insane when I buy jeans, my hips are pretty wide while my waist is thin, so finding jeans that fit perfectly is absolutely impossible, and if I do find them, I consider it a miracle

ag**:
now i know why women took so long when they're buying clothes, i'll never whine if my girlfriend took an hour from now on

An************:

This is why I can't shop online! Why can't we have men's sizes like 24X28?

ja***:
This is exactly why I gave up on remembering my size. There is literally no point.

Je**:
Boi this is why I wear pajamas 24/7 and men shirts
save money
live better.

as*********:

women's clothing sizes make NO sense. My clothes range from a size 10 to a size 16, depending on what i bought and where i got it from. Generally, I wear a 12 or a 14, but even that isn't always reliable.

Ty***:
The fact that they didn’t use women of color doesn’t surprise me, because I can never find a pair of jeans that actually fit, but all my white friends can find jeans that fit.

Su***********:

So making me try on endless rows of clothes that don't fit is meant to make me feel BETTER about my shape?

El***:

They interviewed a Fashion professor at my college for this video. Awesome

Aj********:

"If you don't like the size, just cut it out of your clothes." Ha, I love it!

ke*******:

Whenever I go to forever 21, I can never find my size. Literally everything there is very small, and I'm thicc.

Re*********:

And this is why I don’t buy bottoms online. I have an irrational fear of pants shopping.

Oh*****:
"they're just random numbers, they dont mean anything", i love this

Lo*********:
Let’s be real, Vox could make a video titled “why everything you know about washing cars is wrong” and everyone would watch it and act like it was some revolutionary discovery

mu*********:
"if you dont like the size, just cut it out" thanks, i needed that

fr*******:
Why is so much of the comments section people saying this video is "cancerous feminism" ? This video doesn't have to do with feminism, it's about how outdated sizing charts are and why sizes vary from store to store. I'm pretty sure most of the comments didn't even watch the video.

sa********:

Buying jeans is hell especially boyfriend jeans or mom jeans, since they don't make a size that fits both my waist and hips/thighs, I always have to size up from 25/26( europian sizing), which would fit my waist, to a size 28/29, so they can fit my hips and thighs, which results in a huge gap on the jeans on my waist, but I usually wear a belt. Anyone know any companies that sell jeans for curvier girls/hourglass shaped girls?

Di********:
Ya someone explain why my shirt is an extra large but my sweater is a small.

yo*****:
I like how mom jeans are coming back into style because it is IMPOSSIBLE to find decent fitting skinny jeans or jeggings.

To********:
I thought this was going to address the nonsense of having a single digit for a size. As a man, I get pants based on waist and inseam measurements. Women have one number. That seems stupid. They should both have waist and inseam measurements.

gr*********:

Wow, no wonder most women have to try their clothes on before they buy, I understand you a bit more now.

Wa***************:
Why do women's clothes have no pockets? I have theories, but I would like to hear others opinions.

Sc************:
I can literally be an extra small in some shirts and a large in other shirts depending on the brand. It’s extremely frustrating.

Zo******:

well it doesn't help for me being so tall and so skinny

sp**********:

I will have a 5 night gala the day women’s jeans get pockets

cu**********:

I don't bother with size anymore, I just get really large and baggy clothing

Re************:

Women: hey I have a problem
Internet: feminaziiiiiiiiiiii

Ma***********:
I don't see the problem with this video, pretty interesting

Ja******:

The people that disliked the video I bet didn't even watch it. They just saw the title and that was enough for them...

Na************:

I have never found a jeans that fit me perfectly, so I just buy the closest approximate and then send it to tailor near my neighborhood, quite cheap here in my country but still an additional cost that I don't want to have

Le********:
Thank you Uniqlo for accepting women in all forms

li*********:

One time my Dad and I were in SEARS looking for a women's blazer and literally nothing fit my shoulders. They were fine everywhere else. We decided to go to a "32 and up" store in the same mall and when we got there the cashier said, "Well, I know the sign says we don't have a size zero, but we do. It actually might still be a bit too big for you though." That was literally the only thing we could find that actually fit.
Shopping for clothes is just plain tedious, especially when you're in the body type range where regular brands think you're too fat and brands especially made for a larger physique think you're too skinny to appeal to.
